What is biodiversity?
“Biological diversity” means the variability among living organisms from all sources including, inter alia, terrestrial, marine and other aquatic ecosystems and the ecological complexes of which they are part; this includes diversity within species, between species and of ecosystems.
Biodiversity is one of the basic elements of the natural capital which is subject to special protection under the EU and the international law. It remains in mutual relationship with other elements of the natural capital as: water, soil, air, natural resources.

All sectors of the economy depend on the state of biodiversity, and almost all of them affect it.
